Released May 22, 2016

Jeisson G. Ospina (Guitar & Vocals)

Camilo Castañeda (Bass)

 Sánder Bermúdez (Drums)

Today the Devil took us to Columbia, Bogota Columbia that is and fuck yeah we’re glad to have gotten this album to listen to. They have this tech-death style of their own with vocals that have an unorthodox style but it works. This is the first time I have ever heard them. The Plane of Consistency starts out with a melodic intro for just shy of sixty seconds and then they kick into tech death mode. Solid blasts coming from Sánder’s snare.  But shit, War On The Organs is a fucking killer track. That’s the track that really grabbed my attention. The Plane of Consistancy is a great track to start the album with, but they followed up hard with War on The Organs.  I hear those vocals and I just know that for some people they might not be appealing but I actually like them. Jeisson showcases his talent with the guitar riffs and solo’s he plays throughout the album. And also the different styles, you can hear many elements blending into the music and I want to hear more.    Desiring-Machines is another solid track I mean with each track I find that I like them more and more. They are something different, and I like different. Especially when it has a lot of talent behind the music, and the production quality is great. They did an all-around impressive job with this album. Some of our favorite tracks include: War On The Organs, A Long Procession, and they end on a high note with The Indefinite Article. 8/10 \m/

The Devil’s Due- December 25th- Brought By Pain- Crafted By Society E.P. review + video for Broadcast 8/10\m/

Brought by Pain

Released December 9, 2016

Olivier Bourbonnais-Allaire : 7 String Guitars

Kevin Chartré (Beyond Creation, Unhuman) : 8 String Guitars

Hugo Doyon-Karout (Beyond Creation, Equipoise, The Conflux Collective) : 6 String Fretless Bass

Guyot Bégin-Benoît (Ex-Beyond Creation, Voidmask, Equipoise) : Drums

Samuel Ouimet (Ex-Crimson Skull) : Vocals

Today the Devil has brought us a jazzed up blast filled tech death gem. The band responsible for this killer 3 track E.P. is Canada’s own Brought by Pain. They dropped this killer e.p. earlier this month. With one  hell of a line up this was something we wanted to get our mitts on. Starting with the first track titled “Ending”  the very way it begins with Kevin and Olivier with the guitars playing a killer opening riff, and than Hugo’s bass is nothing short of magical. By the time Samuel unleashes his vocal barrage we were already hooked and that only took about 30 seconds or so. Guyot is a machine behind the kit so it was of no surprise that this was going to be impressive. They open with a very catchy track, with surgically precise transitions and end the E.P. with just under five minutes of some infectious technical brutality with the track “Broadcast” This is the perfect little E.P. to get you interested in this group of musicians. It sure as shit has us ready to hear more stuff by them. Not to mention that if any of you guys are looking for a last minute gift for a metal head, this three track e.p. is only USD $3 and packs a big punch. Sound quality is great, and the line up is truly impressive. While it may only be three tracks each track is rock solid. Whatever holiday you may be celebrating today, if you are looking for something to listen to, check out the Crafted By Society E.P. Everything about this is impressive. 8/10\m/

Kris Bolton-vocals

John Longstreth- Drums

Today the Devil himself has brought us Ravenous Impulse, the second full length album by KS death metal bastards Unmerciful. Now they have already been able to establish a name for themselves and in turn built a fan base. But what triggered my radar was John Longstreth on the drums for this fucking awesome album. You know,  of Origin fame, yea the guy is a fucking beast on the drums. so it was no surprise that this album was going to have some killer blasting death overflowing and bursting at the seams. They  deliver again and again, this album is great with tracks like Kill Reflex, Abscission, Kingdom of Serpents, and ending the album with Methodic Absolution it’s a no brainer why this album with all it has to offer is one of the top albums of 2016. We enjoyed  Unmerciful a lot in 2016 and why we felt this album is a 8/10\m/

Today the devil has dropped something strangely interesting and dark.  It’s the first full length album by Italian noise makers Noise Trail Immersion. I feel as though their name should have included “Therapy” on the end because that’s what this album is like, a caustic  yet effective form of music, that to some could cause epileptic seizures and others like myself find a lot of peace within the music.  They are a really unique band with elements of blackened metal, mathcore, and extreme metal mixed together to create a blunt and chaotic sound that is actually very appealing. Yet melodic in some areas.  It’s a sound that you have to hear to understand, but from listening to this album every little element from the mathcore, to the blackened metal, I mean it all stands out.  they go from one end of the spectrum where they are playing a really smooth melodic riff, to going into some dissonance and poly-rhythms.  All in a matter of seconds and no warnings either and with fierce delivery. You still get plenty of catchy riffs and moments in tracks like Organism. its not all dissonant, dark, noise.  They have a rhyme and a reason, and you will have to go into this album knowing that you are going to  have a lot of unexpected sounds and things happening all at once and from different angles. If you are looking for something different,  something dark and chaotic.  or maybe you are looking for something that walks the balance between dissonance and catchy rhythms look no further. Noise Trail Immersion is the everyday carry utility tool consisting of many different elements and giving you the hardcore fuck you attitude as they deliver their brand through your speakers. I have really enjoyed listening to this and being surprised at what they pull off with their music. 7/10 \m/

Released May 13, 2016

Colin Marston – Bass
Patrice Hamelin – Drums

Today the Devil has brought us pure gold in the form of a truly unique, dark, experimental dissonant, and technical death E.P. Extreme Death  pioneers  Gorguts dropped one hell of an E.P. titled Pleiades’ Dust back in the spring. This E.P. is straight fire,  its a one track, thirty three minute song that makes up the entire E.P. Gorguts did it again and made something that has people talking about them. they continue to put out incredible music that raises the bar on their own creativity and sound. Pleiades’  is the musical release that has taken Gorguts to a higher level than they had been on previously. The song explores  so many different sounds and styles all mashed up into this song, but the beauty of it is the song is spread out for thirty three minutes which makes every transition flow so much smoother. This E.P. is one of the greatest E.P. releases of 2016 we have gotten so much play from this one song. you genuinely need to listen to the entire track to understand. 8/10 \m/

The Devil’s Due- December 16th-The Beast Of Nod- “The Arrival” Review 7/10\m/

The Beast OF Nod

 The Arrival

a0555437705_10

released February 3, 2016

Paul Buckley (Vocals)

Görebläster Körpse-härvest Lunden (Guitar)

Nate MacMillen (Drums)

Brendan Burdick (Bass)

Norwood Pearson-Waclawik (Guitar)

Today the Devil has brought us some intergalactic Death-Groove from Boston, we are listening to The Arrival by The Beast Of Nod. Five killer truly killer tracks.

  • The Beast Awakens

This is a groove filled introductory track. It is strictly instrumental in style and really sets this album up by giving you a taste of what their style is. They are not a straight up death metal band, they incorporate tech death, death metal and groove metal into their sound, as well as incorporating SCI-FI elements into the music.

  • Cephalopod Of Doom

This song starts out with a cool introduction and takes very little time getting into the swing of things with a groove heavy rhythm, and then when Paul’s vocals hit the death elements start to become more obvious. They have a very unique style that is all their own really, sure some bands are doing a Sci-Fi theme with their music. That’s not a new concept, but the way this five piece outfit pulls it off is just cool. You can’t listen to this E.P. and not move to it, head bang, tap your foot whatever it may be. The force is strong with this band and the groove is aplenty.  Just listen to the song until the 3:00 minute mark and you are going to see what I mean, they have these fucking awesome set ups that are not the orthodox style to set up a song.  I find myself enjoying this E.P. more and more as I listen to it. And Paul’s vocals are cool, just downright evil sounding towards the end of this track.

  • When a Meganeura Flies

This is one of my most played tracks off the E.P. and I must admit it all starts with the beginning of the song. The melodic beginning and then the song transitions into a fucking cool groove. This song is stellar in my opinion, I have spun this E.P. for months now but I always come back to this track. I feel like I connect to it when listening to it.  From the beginning to the end, it’s saturated with catchy riffs and a groove you just fall into without expectation. This song is not even their heaviest track, but to me it’s one of their most powerful tracks. The first chorus is undeniably infectious. You can’t help but sing along. And the lyrics fit, I mean if you listen to the song and follow the lyrics, I just don’t see how they could have done a better job.

  • Ascension

This song has a cool beginning that fades in but when they get past the introductory section of this track it’s a jazzy groove filled beginning that sets up the first verse…..

You know something i’m not even going to tell you how the rest of this E.P. plays out, I want you to check it out and form your own opinion. Because this E.P. is truly something worth listening to. It’s not like typical death metal, and it doesn’t sound like space metal or anything spacey for that matter. It’s not something to smoke a joint and mellow out to, that’s for sure.  It’s different, and that’s what has brought all of us to the metal scene in the first place.  Being different, making music that sounds different, we dress different, and that’s what being a metal head is about. So do yourself a favor and check out this awesome E.P.  Because it’s a solid 7/10 \m/ and it looks like they have some new material in the works.

The Devil’s Due- December 15th- Abnormality- Mechanism Of Omniscience- Review 10/10 \m/

Abnormality

Mechanisms Of Omniscience

abnormality

Released April 29, 2016

Mallika Sundaramurthy: Vocals
Jay Blaisdell: Drums
Josh Staples: Bass
Sam Kirsch: Guitars
Jeremy Henry: Guitars

Today we listen to Abnormality’s 2016 crushing album of pure unfiltered aggression titled Mechanisms Of Omniscience. This album is the type of album that when you push play you shut the fuck up and listen with a barrage of emotions ranging from anger, anxiety, and pure metal thirst.  Swarm will not be the track that’s got a nice little intro to help warm you up and get you ready. Nope they fucking blow the doors off with this explosive album from second 0:01. I will admit one of my favorite elements form this album is Jay’s drums, I love the sound of his snare, and on songs like the title track you can hear that from blast beat to a regular beat.  The snare sounds the same, all that means is Jay has some sick fucking  power behind his blast beats.  He’s not pulling his punches, he’s the real deal and that dude can play. But let’s look at a few of the other misfits that make up Abnormality and this album. You have Josh staples who could teach a college course on metal, the guy lives eats breathes metal, and the metal culture and is a pretty down to earth dude.  But the same can be said for the entire band, and what you really have here is a group of some really ambitious and driven individuals that are out to make killer metal, and kick ass.  This album is brutal as hell and really gets you amped up.  Mallika’s vocals are absolutely punishing, with her honed and brutal delivery, people may throw out that it’s a female fronted band.  Female fronted bands get a lot of hype because it’s a woman on the microphone, but that’s not the case here. I don’t think anyone has hyped them up because of who their vocalist is. scratch that, no one has, they dont care about that.   People are just blown away by the music, and Mallika’s vocals are fucking awesome and add that Abnormality flavor. They surprise you because yea it’s not what you expect, and shit she can sing some metal better than me, and most of the people i know.  Granted I am a drummer, but she has some pipes on her, and they are heavy fucking metal pipes because hearing the vocals on tracks like the title track and  she fucking comes in with these growls and it hits you. Damn near crushes you underneath the sheer velocity and power of her voice.  Abnormality are playing a caliber of metal that is almost on another level.  When you think of death metal Abnormality might not be the first name you think of, but I’d be damned if they didn’t take the death metal genre and extract all that is heavy, blend that up with some infectious hooks,  blistering drums, and charisma and you have a sound all their own.  That sound is what makes Mechanisms of Omniscience one of my favorite death metal albums of 2016.  I will forever have a biased opinion towards New England metal and hardcore bands because I feel that the music from that region has the biggest fuck you attitude on the scene. And it all dates back to the revolutionary war times. New Englanders wanted to do their own thing, and the metal coming from that region is very much the same. Mechanisms of Omniscience is one of those albums that every single track on it, kicks ass.  This album has so much packed into it for sound, and intensity.  I have not been able to listen to this without tapping my foot head bang or get amped up.  When you listen to the title track they come out swinging right away but get to the twenty second mark and they have already gotten their hooks in you. But keep listening to the one minute mark and you see the set up for something cool, sure as shit at the 1:22 mark Mallika lets out a growl and how do you not get fucking ripped at that point.  The song literally gets better with each second, and every transition. That’s the way the entire album is, it just gets better, and better and fuels you and gets you ready to throw hay makers. Not only does it get better as you listen to it, the more you listen to it, the more you appreciate the sound they have pulled off.  If you are looking for a solid album, something that would be the apex predator of death metal albums.  Do yourself the favor of checking out Mechanisms Of Omniscience, it will not disappoint. It may cause you to inflict damage to the surrounding structures, so proceed with caution, because once you hit play, you my metal head friends are going for a fucking wild and fun ride.

Mechanisms Of Omniscience has been a major part of my playlist for 2016, I absolutely love this album, everything about it, sounds great, music is very impressive, the driving rhythms. Everything about this album has impressed me 10/10 \m/ If for some reason you haven’t listened to this, well you fucked up. But your pal Badger is here to make sure you don’t go into 2017 without at least listening to it, so check it out below.

The Devil’s Due- December 14th- Man Made God- “Prima Materia” Review 7/10 \m/

Man Made God

Prima Materia

a0382435206_10.jpg

Released April 8, 2016

Man Made God is:
Niles Rodriguez – Drums
Izzy Rodriguez – Guitar
Isaac Fowler – Guitar
Christian Waiau – Bass
Adrian Clark – Keyboards/Backing Vocals
Roderick Spenner – Vocals

Today the Devil has brought us a solid seven track E.P. full of atmospheric progressive death by the Las Vegas NV outfit known as Man Made God.  Prima Materia is a killer E.P. that bursts at the seams with heavy hitting drums and some really gnarly guttural vocals.  They have virtually minimal fluff on this disc.  I mean the very first track titled “Source” starts out with what sounds like a Didgeridoo and the song fades in after about thirty seconds, but I hardly call that filler.  This was a thirty second welcoming period to introduce the listener to the atmospheric style they bring to the table. I love it, this E.P. has been in my rotation since it dropped, and has yet to disappoint me.  They have that atmospheric style similar to Fallujah, but the vocals are right in line with death/ death core styles and the drums and guitars are more death metal driven in areas. It really makes this E.P. a great listen because you can hear all the different elements that make up their style.  The sound quality of this E.P. is great also, it’s one of the things I really liked about this when it came out. Not only does it come with a “Name Your Own Price” tag (for digital copies) but the sound quality is top notch.  The Keyboardist really adds a lot of flavor to this, I wouldn’t say that garnish a melo death delivery just because there are keyboards. But man they really add to this E.P., every time you come to a point in any song where you would think there could be empty space, they fill it with keyboards. And not a flashy fast fingers Freddie slamming keys at blistering speeds. No they add the atmospheric sounds. They add imagery to the music, and I believe that’s something that needs to be mentioned with bands that have an atmospheric style to their music. When listening to this E.P. there are point in which you begin to visualize things, and I find that it is always when the keys are setting things up. While some will argue what song is the best off of this E.P. we did play “Goliath” and “The Martyr” both of those tracks were played often and loud. We love this E.P. and the only gripe we have is that it’s just not long enough. When this E.P. came out it was the first time we heard Man Made God and it was quite a surprise. This E.P. will not be the last time we mention these guys that much is certain, and they aren’t walking away with anything less than a 7/10 \m/

The Devil’s Due- December 13th- My Missing Half- A Proper Hangman’s Knot 8/10 \m/

My Missing Half

A Proper Hangman’s Knot

a4237203180_10

Released June 10, 2016

Bijan Hennessey-Vocals/Guitar
Alex Elwell-Bass
Erik Matthews-Drums

Today the Devil brings us A Proper Hangman’s Knot by Mass metalers My Missing Half. The way this E.P. starts out, the first track, “The Cell I Call Home” has a very melodic and subtle beginning, but don’t let that fool you, because after a deep breath they slam the MMH mobile to death mode and blow the doors of when the vocals come in. For a three piece band they fucking kill it, the drums are perfect, no over the top showmanship.  Erik holds the beat down, and knows when the right time and place to add some cool fills are. I like the fact that when it’s time to play a basic beat,  he does that, allowing for the guitars to be doing cool sounding shit like the hammerons around the three minute mark.  There is no shortage of cool riffs on this E.P. every track satisfies my metal thirst, and these guys are a bunch of cool bastards. I got a chance to see them a few months back, and they played their entire set with YouTube cat videos playing in the background, they really embrace the metalhead culture and seem to really play off of the influences of the great acts from the 90’s and blend those sounds with a more current model of melodic death metal.  They have played with bands like Dark Tranquility, Overkill, Revocation, Havok, and Suffocation. These guys grind out the old school method of being in a metal band.  You can hear it in their music that they are giving 100%, and have even given up big opportunities for the sake of metal.  They didn’t just put out a 5 track E.P. they put out five tracks of unwavering melo-death with a thrash metal attitude and together form a brilliant E.P. that will appeal to so many listeners.  While it may only be five tracks, this E.P. is a solid release and worthy of positive feedback it gets. We really like the whole thing, but if you really need some tracks to check out to give you a taste of whether or not you will like it,  The Cell I Call Home, Another Illness, and Erase Me are all solid tracks.  But I gotta say, this E.P. is right in line with the intensity of their previous album released in 2014 titled “The Lives I’ve Ruined”. I strongly encourage you to check out both and get an idea of their musical evolution and you will see. These guys have no desire to cut corners, do things that are popular, and strive to put out only their absolute best work possible. The production quality of A Proper Hangman’s Knot is superb, one listen and you will be thinking this is a metalblade records band with an E.P. that took years to finish.   These guys came in, and kicked ass with this E.P. We have been listening to this gem for most of the summer and what we liked the most about it, beside the intensity, and the sound quality. But the fact that not many bands sound like these guys, and if you are looking for something cool with a shit load of talent just overflowing form these musicians, and an abrasive vocal delivery that cuts deep.  Check out A Proper Hangman’s Knot and find out why My Missing Half are on the fast track to becoming a band that’s coming out of everyone’s mouths, and selling out some big shows.  These guys are the real deal, and have given a lot up to become the band that they are, and will become.  A proper Hangman’s Knot- 8/10 \m/ fucking awesome and you wouldn’t believe me if I told you anything higher than 8/10, but it’s up to you to decide where this E.P. ranks. But we fucking love it.

Like what you hear, well then check out their BANDCAMP page to order your copy of this stellar E.P.

The Devil’s Due December 9th, The Devils Of Loudun- “Enduring Creation” review 8/10\m/

The Devils Of Loudun

Enduring Creation

Released April 8, 2016

loudun

The Devils of Loudun is:
Scott Hermanns – Guitars
Drew Tuel – Guitars
Ben Velozo – Keyboards
Vance Bratcher – Vocals
Billy Keller – Drums
LJ Cline – Bass

Today the Devil has brought his pals The Devils of Loudun to the stage. And we will be checking out their E.P. released back in April.  This is such a surprising E.P.  From Seattle these guys don’t follow the typical Seattle music scene style. (Pearl jam and other 90’s grunge bands) nope these are delivering some seriously suppressed Seattle melo/tech death.  This cool E.P. really flew under many peoples radar, and I’m not entirely sure why that is.  I suppose possible they were overshadowed by a larger mainstream release. But one listen to this E.P. will have you wondering why you haven’t heard them until now.  But take the chorus of the song Thrown to the Void for example. That shit is catchy as hell, and while we are the subject of that song. I will admit this is actually my favorite song off the E.P.  Simply put, that song fucking rips.  The song really delivers the melo-death aspect of this band really putting a lot of emphasis on the keys.  There’s melodic metal bands, and melodic death metal bands, but I am really impressed by the blended styles because these guys really make this sound their own.  Bonus points to Vance because I am a sucker for guttural exclamations, blurts,   spewt( see Ryan Travis for explanation) that retching sound that some vocalists add and it’s like having a drummer who has a cowbell at his set.  It’s just another tool and I fucking dig it.  Adding the keyboards, and the really fucking contagious hooks, these guys have pulled off an amazing feat.  Everything is technically precise like tech death, its heavy as fuck like death metal and the melodic aspect does not soften the blow. If anything, it’s the one two punch these guys pack.  I’m hooked I don’t know about the rest of you, but if you haven’t heard this E.P. yet, get on that. Songs to def. check out are going to be Thrown to the void, Cast The Stone, and Until the night ends. But wait that’s three out of five songs. Well I just figured if I told you to check out those three you would end up checking out the rest, because let’s face it. This E.P. kicks ass, and it’s time to give it a listen. If technical melo-death is something you would be interested in, than this E.P. is for you, 8/10 \m/

There is also this video they put out for Cast The  Stone
