Tracklist

06 – The Dark Passenger

07 – At The Mountain Of Madness

08 – Blind

09 – Azzaihg’ Nimehc

10 – Divine Sacrifice

The album begins with the track titled Cthulhu’s Calling which is an ominous introductory track really playing towards the dark and intriguing nature of this band. Now I have never heard these guys before, but I gotta admit, the moment those guitars kick in for the second track titled “Lies” I was hooked. Those guitars sound mean.  It reminds me of old Morbid Angel, it’s got me mean mugging while I’m head banging here. They have a solid minute and a half of spine splitting guitar riffs before the vocals join in. The ferocity of the sound is impressive, they walk the line of technical death metal. Is it too early to say that Lies is my favorite track? Holy shit that song blew me away. But they follow that up with an absolutely crushing track like Seed of Hatred. Now I usually will focus a lot on the drums, however I really want to point out the guitar tones. Riccardo and Fabio’s guitars just sound nasty, when thinking about a death metal sound. These guitars deliver the death blow by blow and throw in those classic old school pinch squeals. I dig the guitar solo on “Multiple Eyes” that song really leaves you wanting more. One thing that I really enjoy about the music on this album, is that for every track there is a solid set up between the guitars and the drums. They have really grabbed your attention within the first minute of every song and managed to get the listener hooked rather easily. The sound quality is great, and I dig that artwork. Looking for some new school death metal with a bit of old school influence and technical riffs and blistering drums. Then you will want to check out Soul Demise by Maze of Sothoth. 7/10 \m/

Acranius – Reign Of Terror- Album review 7/10 \m/

Acranius

Reign Of Terror

a0126284413_10

Album release date:  January 27, 2017

Kevin – Vocals
Björn – Guitar
Lars – Bass
Rob – Drums

Reign of Terror starts out with a solid introductory track beginning with radio transmissions growing in volume and fading in,  then the drums and guitar kick things off musically to break this song out of its package. And also to give the listeners a simple two minute acclimation period to get adjusted to the brutal slamming death garnished with a dose of groove.  They follow up  that with Kingmaker This song starts out with the drums getting started with a ten second set up and then the song takes on the personality of an armored tank. It’s a low and slow style song, with a killer groove on the guitars for the verses.I must admit that I was not expecting so much groove from these guys. I mean listening to Outlaw it has this virulent edge about it. And it’s not just the rhythm or the chorus. I mean everything about this song is magnetic.  The drums are perfect, there is literally nothing more the drums needed to do, to accomplish something this satisfactory.  I mean quite frankly I just really dig Rob’s drum style. The sound of the drums is great, snare does not have a ping to it.  And it doesn’t seem like he puts too much thought into things like gravity blasts. In fact it seems like he wants the listener to be able to follow with the beat, but he pulls off some great sounding fills. For example the very beginning of Warpath is such a killer yet simple set up.  Alternating snare bass drum and the tom, and then rolling the bass with the rest of the fill and when you hear it, it is in fact a simple enough fill. But it’s the sound of the drums themselves, the tempo, and really the confidence Ron projects from his drumsticks. Speaking of Warpath let’s talk about that section right around the one minute mark. You know what I am talking about when you listen to the track. It’s going to hook you right away but if it doesn’t then the solo snare pop at the 1:20 mark followed by the drum fill and heavy dose of double bass is going to get you going. But the song hits that breakdown at 1:55 and that’s when shit has hit the fan in the pit. There is no way you can listen to this song without wanting to throw some haymakers. I just don’t see how it is possible after I have listened to it myself.  But they follow up with Battle Scars and holy shit does it have this solid thirty seconds of menacing brutal introduction.  Vocals come in only seconds after that killer intro. It’s a bit of a slower song coming in at around 120BPM but they seem to have this ability to get the listener hooked every song regardless of tempo, blasts, anything like that.  After spinning this album for a bit, I have come to really enjoy their sound. They have no gimmicks, they have no need to sound like anyone else. They don’t live by anyone’s rules, they just play a really catchy form of slamming death metal. Lastly they seal the deal on this album by ending with tracks like “The Executioner” (holy shit what a punishing track it is too), and “Died a Liar” They came to fuck shit up, it’s apparent that what they set out to accomplish was to make some slamming death that’s going to get you hooked and to detonate the pit when they play.  I really enjoy this album,  I was not expecting this album to have so many killer hooks it really is a rock solid album. 7/10\m/ go on an have a listen for yourself to the track Kingmaker

The Devil’s Due- December 30th- Mephistopheles -In Reverence Of Forever E.P. 7/10\m/

Mephistopheles

In Reverence Of Forever

Released July 8, 2016

Matthew “Chalky” Chalk – Vocals
Ben “Ben” Lawless – Guitars + Occasional Vocals
James “Blower” Excell – Bass
Sam “Creamer” Dowson

Hobart, Tasmania

Today the Devil has brought us a rather unique technical blackened death gem titled “In Reverence Of Forever “by Mephistopheles. We hadn’t heard of them before but once we saw that they have ex-members of Psycroptic, Spawn of Possession it piqued our interests. The station is really just an into track featuring sounds of a train station. But when Lake Morose begins its something fucking different. I heard someone throw the term blacknical death metal. Because they are a blacked yet technical death metal band. They really created something quite impressive with this E.P. because it is has such an unconventional sound. But they make it work between modern tech death and old school black metal rhythms. Lake Morose and The Time In Which I Astral Travel have been our most played tracks but you really ought to check this and hear for yourself why we gave this one 7/10 \m/

The Devil’s Due- December 29th Barishi- Blood From The Lions Mouth- 9/10\m/

Barishi

Blood from the Lion’s Mouth

a1642208197_10.jpg

Released September 16, 2016

Sascha Simms

Graham Brooks
Jonathan Kelley

 Dylan Blake

Today is the day the devil came to us with “Blood From The Lion’s Mouth” by Vermont natives Barishi.  They give themselves a brand of metal they call gritty progressive metal. And there is no better name for what they sound like. I got a chance to see them in Peterborough NH at The Wreck Room with WRVTH and they fucking killed it. It was the first time I had heard these guys and I’m glad I went to that show. Because they are going to be making waves as more people take a listen to this album. The vocalist gets 10000% into his lyrics and the music. They put on an awesome show, and the music on this album is thick with groove and powerfully infectious vocals. They start out with Grave of the Creator and that track will hook you almost immediately. I really enjoy the direction they went with for the next track which happens to be the title track. It’s a bit of a slower paced song, but man they have this groove about their music. It will get you moving, it’s a mesmerizing brand of metal. It’s something you can listen to at any time and enjoy it, because it’s got really catchy rhythms and the vocals push a boundary not many cross. Sascha has this different persona when on the mic. The music washes over him and he connects on a different level and projects his haunting and raw vocals with a certain flow. Between Graham’s guitar and jobs bass they are on equal planes. Neither of them cancel the other out, they are perfectly blended and the tone is superb. Dylans drums are the final piece to the equation that makes this band a winning team. They have this style and it’s a raw, unfiltered progressive metal that you just don’t hear. They hail from Brattleboro, Vermont and really nailed it with this album. There are so many good tracks to call favorites and hard at the same time because each track has its own DNA and personality. Bonesetter is very much different from the title track. We love this album, it is one of our favorites of 2016 and you really should check this album out if you want to hear something cool and different, full of groove, and chilling raw vocals. 9/10 \m/

a0363178176_10.jpg

Released May 22, 2016

Jeisson G. Ospina (Guitar & Vocals)

Camilo Castañeda (Bass)

 Sánder Bermúdez (Drums)

Today the Devil took us to Columbia, Bogota Columbia that is and fuck yeah we’re glad to have gotten this album to listen to. They have this tech-death style of their own with vocals that have an unorthodox style but it works. This is the first time I have ever heard them. The Plane of Consistency starts out with a melodic intro for just shy of sixty seconds and then they kick into tech death mode. Solid blasts coming from Sánder’s snare.  But shit, War On The Organs is a fucking killer track. That’s the track that really grabbed my attention. The Plane of Consistancy is a great track to start the album with, but they followed up hard with War on The Organs.  I hear those vocals and I just know that for some people they might not be appealing but I actually like them. Jeisson showcases his talent with the guitar riffs and solo’s he plays throughout the album. And also the different styles, you can hear many elements blending into the music and I want to hear more.    Desiring-Machines is another solid track I mean with each track I find that I like them more and more. They are something different, and I like different. Especially when it has a lot of talent behind the music, and the production quality is great. They did an all-around impressive job with this album. Some of our favorite tracks include: War On The Organs, A Long Procession, and they end on a high note with The Indefinite Article. 8/10 \m/

The Devil’s Due- December 27th- Unfathomable Ruination- Finitude Review 8/10 \m/

Unfathomable Ruination

Finitude

a0297934181_10.jpg

Released August 31, 2016

Ben Wright- Vocals
Daniel Herrera- Guitars
Ross Piazza- Guitars
Federico Benini- Bass
Doug Anderson- Drums

Today the Devil dropped this in our lap and we were thrilled to give this one a spin. Finitude delivers the brutality which is typical from the UK based death metal outfit Unfathomable Ruination. This album kicks ass, and is exactly what I had come to expect from these guys. They open with Pestilential Affinity which is a flurry of gravity blasts for a few bars on and off, but really setting the pace. Which is fucking fast and heavy as hell. The sound quality is great, absolutely top notch, and the guys really gave it their all. They continue track after track to deliver something heavy and fresh while you can hear and distinguish several influences throughout the music. Thy Venomous Coils is another track that comes out of the gate with a sick guitar line and the drums really set up the beginning of the song. By the time the verse starts and the drums are blasting I was hooked, now add the vocals and they come in with a groove. But the way that song ends is fucking brutal and is undeniably catchy. they have a strong formula that works because for every bit of heavy that they are, they have other elements that are just as appealing.  I really dig Finitude which is their second full length album. Having been together as a band since 2010 they have put out two E.P.’s and now 2 full length albums.  All I can say is they fucking nailed it with this album. Highlight tracks include; Thy Venomous Coils, Nihilistic Theorem, and the album ending opus Forge of Finitude. We have enjoyed everything Unfathomable Ruination has put out to date, but this album is simply solidifying their grip on death metal brutality.  8/10\m/

The Devil’s Due- December 26th- Asphalt Graves- The New Primitive- Album review 8/10\m/ album stream plus video for “Angst And Praise”

Asphalt Graves

The New Primitive

a0189168740_10.jpg

Released June 24, 2016

Jason Netherton – Vocals
Adam Faris – Guitars
Brent Purgason – Bass Guitar
Shannon Lucas – Drums

Today the devil has brought us one of our favorite albums of 2016. It came out and really did not get the attention it deserved.  There are several reason why this album is one of the best, and deserves credit.  Let’s start with the borderline supergroup line up. First and foremost you have Jason Netherton on vocals. you know from Dying Fetus, and Misery Index, yea the guy knows metal, has actually given a presentation in Finland at the Modern Heavy Metal conference with notable names in metal like Scott Ian and many more. So my point being, Jason is a very important person in metal culture and had even put together a book on a look at the history of metal over the years. So yea the guy has taken metal to many extremes and documented them all.  Now you throw in Shannon Lucas and you have the guy behind several BDM classics, and an all-around solid drummer.  I mean these are only two members but they all come from bands like; GWAR, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Misery Index/ Dying Fetus.  Driven and heavy brutal death/grind mashed up into a solid album with 13 tracks of blasting chaos. I will note, that while Misery Index is one of my all-time favorite bands, listening to Asphalt Graves is like listening to early Misery Index. Jason sounds more raw, and unfiltered. The guitars have that buzz saw distortion and are nailing down catchy rhythms in between face disfiguring brutal riffs. This album did not get enough credit, I felt I needed to revisit this album because it is just too damn good to leave unmentioned. Personal favorite tracks include; No Feast (Without Cruelty), Mass Graves, and Stop Resisting. We absolutely loved this album and look forward to more from this killer collaboration. 8/10\m/

The Devil’s Due- December 25th- Brought By Pain- Crafted By Society E.P. review + video for Broadcast 8/10\m/

Hugo Doyon-Karout (Beyond Creation, Equipoise, The Conflux Collective) : 6 String Fretless Bass

Guyot Bégin-Benoît (Ex-Beyond Creation, Voidmask, Equipoise) : Drums

Samuel Ouimet (Ex-Crimson Skull) : Vocals

Today the Devil has brought us a jazzed up blast filled tech death gem. The band responsible for this killer 3 track E.P. is Canada’s own Brought by Pain. They dropped this killer e.p. earlier this month. With one  hell of a line up this was something we wanted to get our mitts on. Starting with the first track titled “Ending”  the very way it begins with Kevin and Olivier with the guitars playing a killer opening riff, and than Hugo’s bass is nothing short of magical. By the time Samuel unleashes his vocal barrage we were already hooked and that only took about 30 seconds or so. Guyot is a machine behind the kit so it was of no surprise that this was going to be impressive. They open with a very catchy track, with surgically precise transitions and end the E.P. with just under five minutes of some infectious technical brutality with the track “Broadcast” This is the perfect little E.P. to get you interested in this group of musicians. It sure as shit has us ready to hear more stuff by them. Not to mention that if any of you guys are looking for a last minute gift for a metal head, this three track e.p. is only USD $3 and packs a big punch. Sound quality is great, and the line up is truly impressive. While it may only be three tracks each track is rock solid. Whatever holiday you may be celebrating today, if you are looking for something to listen to, check out the Crafted By Society E.P. Everything about this is impressive. 8/10\m/

Today the Devil himself has brought us Ravenous Impulse, the second full length album by KS death metal bastards Unmerciful. Now they have already been able to establish a name for themselves and in turn built a fan base. But what triggered my radar was John Longstreth on the drums for this fucking awesome album. You know,  of Origin fame, yea the guy is a fucking beast on the drums. so it was no surprise that this album was going to have some killer blasting death overflowing and bursting at the seams. They  deliver again and again, this album is great with tracks like Kill Reflex, Abscission, Kingdom of Serpents, and ending the album with Methodic Absolution it’s a no brainer why this album with all it has to offer is one of the top albums of 2016. We enjoyed  Unmerciful a lot in 2016 and why we felt this album is a 8/10\m/

The Devil’s Due- December 23rd- Cognitive “Deformity” Album review 9/10 \m/

Cognitive

Deformity

 Released October 28, 2016

Jorel Hart-Vocals
Rob Wharton- Guitars
Harry Lannon-Lead Guitars
Armen Koroghlian-Drums
Ian Bainbridge-Bass

Today the devil has brought us “deformity, the sophomore album by New Jersey’s slamming death act Cognitive.  The album begins with a solid introductory track, filled with gruesome riffs, a hearty helping of blast beats, and samples to set the scene. By the time you get to the second track off this stellar album, you may have already decided that you were intrigued and ready to listen to what these guys are going to pull off. Well Birthing The Deformity is a cool track t follow up Awakening The Miscreation. Haunted justice is a solid track, but possibly my favorite track comes in fourth on the track list.  And that is Beneath The Floorboards. I really dig this track as it has gotten the most plays out of the album. But the album as a whole is fucking awesome. When we got our hands on this it was a great day because this album right here has gotten a lot of rotations by us. I’m am very pleased by this album, as it is meticulously catchy rhythms and the technicality for precise transitions between some killer riffs. I really dig this album and you know it is a great follow up to their 2014 self-titled album. While their self-titled album had a small melodic element about it, Deformity does not possess that characteristic, but is much heavier.  They really seal the deal by ending the album with a punishing track like Merciless Forest that solo at the end does it for me. This track rips. This album rips, and it’s why we have been enjoying it so much, enough to earn this one a 9/10 \m/
